Back to School…

Back to school…the bells tolls for thee…

Ok, ok, hopefully it isn’t that bad for you.  If most of you are honest with yourself, you actually like coming to school for one reason or another.  Seeing your friends, going to a football or basketball game, enjoying some apple crisp on Thursdays in the cafeteria, or (in a whisper) going to a class you actually enjoy.  Whatever the reason may be, find something that you truly appreciate about coming to school everyday.  If it just so happens that you aren’t thrilled about any of your classes at the present moment, look for something about them that you can enjoy and benefit from.  I know that your teachers would be more than willing to help if you give them a chance.

As the year winds down, I think that we should take stock of everything that is going on around us.  As most of us get ready to breathe a sigh of relief with summer in sight, many of our students have a lot on their minds.  For our seniors, concerns relating to high school are quickly disappearing in the rearview mirror, as thoughts of beginning college or finding a job have crowded out everything else.  This can be a very stressful time for all involved in this process.  Let’s not forget how much an encouraging word can mean.

For some of our freshmen, a difficult choice has been made about whether to remain at Gibson County or to transfer to South Gibson County.  Many students will be leaving friends behind when school starts in the fall.  I think that it is important for us to keep these things in mind and to be sensitive to student concerns during this time of transition.  Change can be very exciting, but the uncertainty that often accompanies it can be somewhat stressful.

I want this blog to be a place where we can discuss different ideas about things that are going on in class or any other thoughts that might pop up about education related topics.  If you are in one of my history classes, leave a comment about something you would like to discuss or do in class.  If you are a colleague, leave a comment about something you have done or would like to do in class that we can discuss.  I am going to leave a post on each page for this purpose.  Find the right page and leave a comment!

First Post!

This is my first post on my new blog.  Hopefully I will be able to be semi-regular in updating this blog!
